The Office of Dr. Joseph Brooks
Joseph Brooks, MD, specializes in the treatment of girls and women with vulvovaginal diseases in Phoenix, Arizona. Practicing in the area for more than a decade, he offers expert diagnosis and treatment for disorders of the female lower genital tract, including vulvodynia, vulvar skin disorders, recurrent vulvovaginal infections, and female sexual pain at Arizona Specialized Gynecology. Dr. Brooks heads a practice that offers the latest in female wellness technologies, including MonaLisa Touch®, TempSure™ Envi, and beyond.
A longtime Arizona resident, Dr. Brooks completed his undergraduate studies at Eastern Arizona College and Arizona State University. After earning a medical degree at Saba University School of Medicine, Dr. Brooks completed residency training at the Phoenix Integrated Residency of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Following his residency, Dr. Brooks undertook sub-specialty training in vulvovaginal diseases. In 2008, he earned the distinction of completing the first fellowship in the United States in vulvovaginal diseases. The fellowship training took place at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and the Arizona Vulva Clinic. The following year, Dr. Brooks became a fellow of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD). Dr. Brooks speaks both Spanish and Portuguese.
At Arizona Specialized Gynecology, Dr. Brooks leads a staff that recognizes the sensitive nature of the difficulties faced by patients with vulvovaginal conditions. Their goal is ensuring patients feel at ease when making appointments or asking questions.
Dr. Brooks and the team place an emphasis on patient education to empower patients to achieve greater personal health. The staff also is dedicated to meeting each patient’s unique needs. They encourage patients to contact Arizona Specialized Gynecology with any questions.
Nurse Practitioner Wende Scholzen, WHNP
Wende Scholzen started with Arizona Specialized Gynecology in July 2019. She previously worked with Dr Brooks from 2011 - 2014 after graduating from the ASU Nurse Practitioner Program.
Wende's emphasis is on vulvovaginal and cervical disease. She performs all gynecologic procedures including: colposcopy, vulvoscopy, endometrial biopsies, punch biopsies, condyloma removal and IUD insertions.
